impressions from a dream
i had a dream. you were standing in line for concert tickets. for us. i was waiting in the car outside. i could see you through the glass. when you got back to me i realized you only bought one. for yourself. we had a big fight. i was outraged again. you could see i was hurt and nothing could be done about it. emotional i pulled away from the curb. deep in the heart of a city. i was full of adrenaline and losing it. i stepped on it and drove that old Chevy into a subway enclosure. bloody stepping out on the street. you were okay, more worried for me. someone called for an ambulance. then we could hear the sirens. you embraced me. i finally got it. you cared. i couldn't calm down. #katyamills

fade into culture
campbell's soup cans tagged on subway cars descend into giant holes in the earth. it gets dark. we pick up speed. ✨️ the sound of steel on steel is amplified by the concrete coated walls. an artist absorbs every sense of it. a product comes into being. to be sold. sold. sold. my hair turns white like warhol. 🙃 when we come into the light i have my mysteries inside my heart. you will have to kill me.

when pennies were copper
mag wheels for eyes
roll out in silent film
silver screen dyes
down walkways
floorlit and salted
and buttered with
scenes
of someone else's storied
childhood
long legs falling in love
with strapping lads on streets
paved flat by
pennies
land without
cell phones
a sunday. 1955
a city. 1959
when churches were
sanctuaries
mark the time
by the bells and
the sun
we rest on
bloody knees
the automobile
extinct
home. 1936
the sky. 1910
the pool
1920 and two metres
deep
the denim
1969. when pennies
were copper
the board
she saw better
days
cut elbows
in ink
porcelain cheap
for the poor
inscripted
the names
in powder blue
soap
sliding down rails
to the subway
we saw better
days
laughter echoes
a certain
despair

someone loves you
Someone you love, there's a feeling you're circling them all the while, watching out for them, looking over their shoulder; follow them to market, smile when they smile, across from them on the subway train, flickering light, blink when they blink, in the rolling uneven snaking through the city substreets. Thoughtful to your thinking, cry when you cry. Someone loves you, there's a feeling they're circling you all the while.
